Seat Post Rack Assist

I had a seat post rack for few years but it finally bit the dust on a ride home one day. The thing done just snapped. There was a major weld that gave out and to be honest, I probably taxed the thing beyond its capabilities more than a few times.

Some of the newer seat post racks seem built to last. When I was in D.C. I saw a rear seat post rack assist. The rider used a long metal plumbing clamp, looped through the seat post stays and down under the rack post. This certainly might extend the life and keep the thing more stable. Also notice the plumbing clamp securing the quick release on the rack to keep it from walking away.

Brilliant! I have this exact rack, and this is just what I needed. Thanks!

The expression you were looking for is “saddle rails”…I got confused until I saw the second photo.

It’s ghetto fabulous, but is actually a great idea — those seatpost racks have a tendency to sway and to sag if you exceed their weight limit, and this helps triangulate things. Thumbs up!

I also have this rack. I bought the quick release one so it could be quickly released when I arrive at work.

I will look into ways to make an assist similar to this that can also be quickly released.
