Pimp Your Bike: Down Low Glow

Hey, thanks for stopping by! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the RSS feed. You can also subscribe to BikeHacks by email. Thanks for visiting!

Anything cyclists can do to make themselves more visible is a plus. At RockTheBike.com they sell a product known as the “Down Low Glow.” It looks like a dope product for sure.

A gentleman who claims to have invented the Down Low Glow is featured in the following video. His web site is ridelow.co.uk. The video is 3:40 long and the Down Low Glow is in full effect near the end of the video. If anyone has one of these, I would love to know more. For example: How durable are the lights? Are they water proof? How long do they hold a charge?

If you follow your own link to Ridelow a little deeper, to the text on the page for the neon lighting, (Down Low Glow) you’ll get a lot more answers to your questions. I don’t know his history fully, but it appears that Fossil Fool spent some time in the UK, and Ridelow now carry his product. Spend a little time at his blog and you might realize that the bloke in the UK video is the same bloke.
Or at least that is the way it appears. I’ve only purchased a kickstand from him so far, but he’s all about customer satisfaction and when I’m ready for my own Down Low Glow, I’ll be calling him for groovy lighting.
    Ride On.

Hahaha I never would have expected those neon lights for bicycles. I’d probably put them on my bike before my car though, so when I fix up some of my old cruisers, I’ll look into these.

I have one of the “cool blue” tubes. They indeed do rock.

I live in Los Angeles and read bicycle blogs regularly and saw a link to his company’s blog and followed it. The Flickr photosets showing off the “DownLow Glow” speak for themselves. Anyone who commutes by bicycle at night should get these.

When I had trouble placing my order on his company website, I called this phone number and Paul himself answered the phone! He actually answered the phone, “Hello, Fossil Fool.” (BTW, I don’t know anything about this video, but I think he works now out of Berkeley California.)

My order consisted of one blue tube, the external battery pack, the more-expensive rapid charger, and some Velcro straps and adhesive. Plus a sheet of instructions.

The battery recharges in about 2 hours and I have yet to run down the light. But note that I only have the tube burning for a short amounts of time. I try to limit my night-time riding! It’s dangerous here in Los Angeles to ride at night!

I’m very happy with the product. The comments you get from cyclists, pedestrians and even auto drivers are worth the purchase price. It just looks awesome.

    Ride on!
