Hey, thanks for stopping by! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to the RSS feed. You can also subscribe to BikeHacks by email. Thanks for visiting!

I was intrigued when I saw the following photo in the BikeHacks! Flickr Pool so I reached out to gregraisman and asked if he would be interested in telling me about it. I had never heard of a Mundo Cargo Bicyle before but it looks like winner for sure. Enjoy the interview and if you have a Mundo story contact us and we’d be happy to post it!

So how long have you had your Mundo and how do you like it?

I bought my Mundo in June. I love it! It’s opened up all sorts of new ways to use a bicycle. I ride it everywhere. It makes stopping at the grocery store on the way home from work way easier.

It does have some first-run production issues that a local bike shop is taking care of for me right now. Overall, though, it’s great. Wonderful ride quality, super stout, comfy.

What’s the furthest you have ridden your Mundo?

My longest ride on the Mundo was about 25 miles. My friend Mike did a 90 mile ride on his. He put tri-bars on for the trip.

How did you get the idea to mount a bike rack to your bike?

I needed to get the bike to the bike shop for a repair and didn’t want to drive. I noticed that the Yakima rack uses a round bar and my Mundo rack has round bars.

Turned out that the Yakima bars are slightly larger than the Mundo bars. So, I used an old tire tube to shim it in. Worked great. The tubes were very grippy.

How exactly did you attach the rack to your bike? What materials, tools did you use?

I used a 1/2 inch wrench and some scissors.

How did the bike handle with the rack on the back of it?

I had to ride very carefully. The weight on the back made the front end want to come up. So, I had to ride with my weight shifted forward. Took turns VERY slow and careful. I also had a friend ride spot for me.

Do you plan on using this hack in the future or was this a one time experiment for fun?

It was fun to ride this way. I’d do it again because it worked. I wouldn’t want to do it a lot, though.

What else have you hauled on your Mundo?

Other than this one, what is your favorite personal bike hack?

I think I like the bike archway that greets you to the Multnomah County Bike Fair as my personal favorite bike hack ever. Click here for a picture via the Flickr photostream of Shmoovio.

Thanks Greg!
