The monthly Critical Mass Ride got violent in Seattle. A car that got surrounded by the mass ended up with four flattened tires and a bunch of busted in windows. I would love to hear from someone who was involved in the ride. If someone who was involved stumbles across this post, I’d love to hear from you. If you are a regular member of the rides in Seattle feel free to chime in. CNN story here.

No, fuck that - I’m completely pro-bike but nobody wins in these idiotic, testosterone-fueled attacks on cars. If, as the article states, the car backed up into some bikers, that’s completely fucked but the right thing to do is take down the car’s plates, call 911, and report them as a hit-and-run driver, not go off on some dumb vigilante attack.

Meh. This has destroyed my interest in the Critical Mass that has just started in my city, Tampa.

Hmm. I left a comment earlier with a bunch of links, but it probably got caught by the spam filter. There has been a bunch of coverage of this at the Stranger, including statements from a cyclist whose leg was run over and from the driver involved: http://slog.stranger.com

Here’s a link from somebody who was involved directly. http://arcanius.silverfir.net/blog/critical-mass-collision
It’s a good perspective and worth the read.
