Globe Post #2: Fighting Back

The obvious no brainer in being excited about the Globe Experience Project for me is that I get a bike out of it. However, there is a major bonus in that I am now connected to a new community of people, each with their own story. I hope to get to know everyone involved in the project as it proceeds forward. One story is of a person who is fighting a battle with cancer.

Globe recipient Rob has testicular cancer and the beginning of his story is:

My name is Robert. I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in February 2009. One week after the orchiectomy, I checked into the ER with excruciating pain in my stomach. Crippling, debilitating, mind-numbing pain. As it turns out, the cancer had metastasized into my lungs and liver, and the tumors in my liver had begun to bleed.

It’s probably safe to say that each of and everyone out there has had a loved one or friend who has battled with cancer. Rob started a blog appropriately entitled “Fighting Back” and I certainly hope his story ends like one other famous cyclist who kicks cancer’s ass.

Rob can use all the support he can get and if you have some inspiration for him please check out his blog and pass on some encouragement.

The BikeHacks crew wishes Rob and his family all the best.
