Reelights For Safety
April 15th, 2008 · No Comments
Via CoolTools comes this pointer for blinky lights activated by magnetic induction. Similar to how your odometer works, Reelights work by a magnet attached to your spokes, which provides power to the light as the magnet turns.

Kickback Hub
April 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Astoria Bike recently posted an entry about the purchase of a kick back hub. The hub provides coaster brake functionality, but with two speeds. The genius? You shift gears by braking, or by slightly back pedaling. Apparently this kind of hub was invented in the early 60s.

Over on Instructables someone started a post on uses for old bicycle inner tubes. He made it up to twenty, but we just know there have to be more.
The hacked inner tube made its debut on Bikehacks with windproof shoe covers. A follow up was using inner tubes to wrap your [...]
Good Gear Can Make A Difference
March 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments
Local cyclist and friend, Matt Haughey, will be riding in Cycle Oregon this summer and wondered whether upgrading his roadbike would make much of a difference in his performance.
Matt rented a high-end road bike just to see if the marketing hype surrounding such bikes had any grounding in reality. He was hoping for some performance [...]

February 29th, 2008 · 3 Comments
Reader Mike sends in this perfectly sensible tip: instead of buying a helmet cover, just pick up shower caps from hotels. They give ‘em away!
