I saw this bike locked outside my apartment building recently. I noticed a note and got a little closer and discovered someone was interested in making the bike their own.

Wouldn’t that make it a seller’s market - when buyers are hunting for product (as in this case) the seller has the power.

Your comment makes perfect sense, but my logic was that in this case, the buyer is “marketing” his or her interest in the bike and thus creating the possibility of a transaction.

In all my years in NYC I have not once seen a sign like this one. I normally see “For Sale” signs, but this is the reverse.

does that bike have a spare wheel locked to it?

or is it the remains of a poorly locked friend’s bike?

It also doesn’t seem to have a chain. Curiouser and curiouser.

You are correct Joel, that would be a classic definition of a sellers market.

I’m also curious about the no chain and spare wheel?

It almost makes me wonder if it is a immigrant trying to sell their bike and got confused, with their “engrish”. The word “want” that looks like it has an “e” instead of an a further makes it curious.

Of all the bikes in NYC, why would someone be interested in buying THIS one? It’s a dog…but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;)

Yes, this one does seem like an unlikely candidate for object of desire. Maybe they’re a sucker for old lugged frames and plan to have a cheap starting point for their next submission to fixedgeargallery.com :-) . I’ve noticed that old 10-speed beaters on Craigslist are starting to get a little pricier ($150-$200 with the occasional owner who just wants the bike gone fast).
