Over at back2dabike, Jason goes into excellent detail on how to build your own alcohol stove that’s perfect for touring. There are a fair number of instructions floating around for these kinds of stoves, but Jason’s are super-detailed, with the added benefit of being hilarious. And he’s got a video of the stove in action (below).
Basically, if you’re on the lookout a cheap and super-lightweight stove, then check out his instructions. Depending on the conditions where you’re going, you may also want to whip up a cheap windscreen out of an aluminum turkey pan. Like Jason’s stove, it’s not rocket science–just make a round wall of aluminum. If you want something a little more advanced then check out these plans for a windscreen/potholder combo.
