Creativity can definitely play a part in bicycle security. If you were grading this cyclist on creativity, you would have to award a grade of “A” for this effort. If someone did want to steal this bike, they would definitely have to put in some effort. Of course I am not so sure the local police are large proponents of such techniques, but NYC does not do a good job of providing bicycle parking so a little creative thinking should be appreciated and not punished in my humble opinion.

Did you see the bike parking at Times-Up 20 year party? Literally hundreds, maybe a thousand, bicycles locked to everything in sight over one block. Trees, construction, sings, posts, up high, etc.

Haha that’s brilliant! He must have had bikes stolen before, or else is quite paranoid.

It occurs to me that by raising your lock off the ground, it would be much harder for a thief to operate heavy bolt cutters (usually one handle on the ground, and the other being bounced on by the thief’s body weight).
But how to lock a bike high without being what some might consider obtrusive?
